From start to finish, this was a superb experience. Captain John and Patent Pending got great reviews, which is why we chose the operation. Pre-trip communication from Captain John was excellent. He called to confirm what we’d need and asked if we had any questions. The Captain and Crew were ready to go when we arrived at 6 AM. The boat was impeccably clean, comfortable, and there was plenty of sitting room in the shade. We were four teenage boys and one adult, all fairly inexperienced, and Captain John and First Mate were incredibly patient and helpful. They did their best to find where the fish were biting and we ended up taking home some beautiful (and delicious!) Spanish mackerel, a nice Rockfish, and some bluefish, all cleaned and fileted by the Captain himself. We could not have had a better day and cannot wait to book Captain John and the Patent Pending again soon!

The boat is custom made fishing boat with plenty of room, cover from the sun and excellent fishing gear. Captain John’s secret weapon is the home-made spoon rigs that attract fish and good times. Highly recommend the captain and boat, we are booked again for the fall! Added bonus crab cakes for lunch, blue fish recipe from the Captain, and his stories add to the adventure.

We booked an all-day trip on June 30, 2021, which was worth every penny. Caught lots of fish and enjoyed watching my granddaughter experience her first fishing excursion to Chesapeake Bay! Capt. John was an absolute joy! He was professional, knowledgeable, and MAN-O- MAN the crab cake lunch we ordered exceeded expectations! The 1st Mate, Phil, was an endearing character who brought lots of giggles and laughs, beautiful boat, gorgeous weather, hospitable hosts and GREAT FOOD! Thanks again, fellas!

These guys are MASTERS. His first mate Phil is also PHENOMENAL. My brother and I caught 50+ fish even on a hot summer afternoon. Learned SO much. Literally the Harvard masterclass of Bay fishing. Can’t recommend Capt. John & Phil enough! Absolutely repeat customers here. And John’s patent-pending “Spoonbrells” are flat out amazing. I ordered 4 within 2 hours of finishing our delicious meal same night from all the fish we caught. A+++

Thanks, Capt. John, for good afternoon of fishing you were great and so was your mate. We had a good time. And if we can get party together for the fall, we will be booking the trip with Patent Pending. If you are looking for good boat to charter, book a trip with Patent Pending. They work hard to get you on fish, they have well maintained tackle, a clean and comfortable boat, and Capt. John and his mate are both friendly and knowledgeable. A great team to go fishing with.

Our family of 6 had such a wonderful time on Patent Pending. We were up and out early! The boat was comfortable and had everything we needed! The fish were hard to find in the morning, but we enjoyed the ride around the Chesapeake Bay and finally, after a delicious lunch prepared by the captain, we found the spot where the Rockfish and Spanish Mackerel were biting! It was so much fun! Highly recommend Captain John for a great fishing experience!

Excellent trip! My family had such a good time catching fish and didn’t want the day to end! Spanish mackerels, blue fish and rockfish were running on this day. We opted for the gourmet jump lump crab cake lunch, great choice! Captain John and the first mate made my sons and I feel at home on the boat. Very friendly and helpful, they made sure that we had a great day. This was our little vacation due to Covid cancelling our summer travel plans!

Capt. John, first mate Ronnie and the boat, were simply fantastic. 3 out of the 6 guys had never been out in the bay before and this team made it spectacular for them. We had 14 lines in the water at the same time and 9 out of 14 all hit at the same time, the remaining lines hit fast and hard. Needless to say, we hit our for-rockfish limit within 4 hours of an 8 hours trip. If you are considering this, patent pending charters, will not let you down!
Half Day Trip (AM) on August 10, 2020
Captain John and his mate were phenomenal. The boat was clean, AC inside the cabin, clean restroom and plenty of room on deck. We trolled the entire time and maybe had about 15-20 mins without action on the entire 6-hour trip. The captain was very good at tracking the fish and moving to them to allow for a great experience. Highly recommend and will be going again. Make it happen you will not be disappointed. We will definitely be out with this captain again. See you guys soon.
